To be honest broadband is just the word which people use to refer to high-speed Internet access. If you have never used high-speed Internet before you will find broadband to be very convenient and enjoyable. It's actually very easy-to-use and it's much better than using dial-up connection. Once you've used broadband I doubt you'll be able to go back to a dial-up connection again. These days broadband services can be as cheap as a dial-up. So there is no reason to sign up for a dial-up connection when you can get broadband for almost the same price or even cheaper.

Apart from the fact that broadband is faster it is not very different from a dial-up connection. Of course the equipment is different and it will use a modem and in many cases you will still have to connect through a telephone line. The only exception to this is when use mobile broadband. With mobile broadband you do not need a BT line in order to connect. The big difference is that your broadband connection is always on every day 24 hours a day unless of course you switch it off. Most companies charge a flat monthly fee for broadband usage although they may change you a bit more if you use up your download allowance. In terms of surfing the Internet and doing things online a broadband connection is far much better and faster. You will be able to do a lot more than you could ever do with a dial-up connection.

You will be able to watch video clips, watch live broadcast on television, download music, software, movie trailers and other files. You'll also be able to play video games.

It is now possible to find cheaper broadband deals to suite your needs. You don't have to buy an expensive package just because that's the only one available. There are more options now. Internet service providers or ISPs are offering excellent broadband packages online. So there's no reason for anyone sign up for a dial-up connection or an expensive broadband deal when they can get cheaper broadband Internet elsewhere.

If you don't want broadband that is always on you can sign up for pay as you go broadband. There are many companies offering this type of service.

Don't forget, you can save a lot of money by comparing different broadband services before you buy. There are websites where you can do this. You can look in your local newspapers, magazines and national papers too.
